Pragati Sawhney is a dentist, with a Masters of Public Health from Columbia University New York.
At a chance chocolate making class while visiting Delhi, India in 2011, she was disturbed to find that homemade “chocolate” spread all over India was not made with real cacao or cacao butter but cocoa compound and vegetable oil with unhealthy artificial flavor syrups, white sugar, and sweeteners instead of real cacao and cacao butter. Besides no public awareness, there was no nutritional labeling or regulations to control the growing trend damaging to public health.
Dr Pragati researched for months about issues and worked full time over coming barriers to launch called Chockriti Chocolates, India premier natural artisan chocolates end of 2011 with an added social mission (click here). The products sold internationally, are made with 100 percent real cacao from Europe and fresh brews of organic raw teas, flowers, spices and herbs with both US FDA and FSSAI compliant safe nutritional labeling. There is no added sugar*, vegetable oil, butter or artificial ingredients including commercial flavors or colors. She then certified from Ecole Chocolat. Further more, she received much recognition globally and this October 2015 won the “Woman Entrepreneur of the Year 2015” nationally hosted by TieCon and Power2SME. Read here

Chockriti™ Chocolates Design Studio: Empowering Women To Build Entrepreneur Skills
Chockriti opened a studio (2012-2014) right in Kishen garh village and employed women from the Kamilini Foundation there. Out of 12 people, two were selected based on their interest and aptitude in confectionery business. Women learned about running a small business and overcoming challenges besides complete training on working with fine chocolate. From manufacturing, operations, packing, inventory management, accounting and internet skills, women gained confidence on running a small business independently and exploring their entrepreneur and leadership potential.
“Chockriti Chocolates offers deserving women the opportunity to learn marketable skills and the training to run a business so that they will feel empowered and make a positive difference in their families. We give them fair wages, flexible hours, a safe and pleasant work environment, and help them balance their work and family life.” –Founder of Chockriti™ Chocolates Pragati Sawhney
Chockriti™ Chocolates trains and selects women from various organizations. The women receive fair pay and bonuses, and they are able to work close to their home in the Village of Kishan Garh where the Chocolate Design Studio is based. Women employed by Chockriti do not need to compromise their family life to earn good wages in a safe and friendly environment. Their children go to school nearby and can visit their mothers if required, including coming to the studio on their off days. In future, Chockriti hopes to offer employees the opportunity of ownership in the company.
